Ski Patrol Supervisor

One full time seasonal position available

Responsibilities: 

  • Supervising and motivating up to 6 paid patrol staff and 12 volunteer patrollers. 
  • Supervising and coordinating Patrol and Mountain Safety Volunteers. 
  • Ensuring the overall safety of mountain staff and guests through effective injury and incident prevention methods including:
    1. Completing daily ski/snowboard terrain inspections.
    2. Completing daily and weekly facility and equipment safety inspections. 
    3. Ensuring a consistent presence of staff in public areas during operating hours.
  • Assisting the manager with the hire, orientation and training of new and returning safety staff.
  • Ensuring adequate first aid and safety coverage through effective scheduling of resources.
  • Maintaining department budgets, including labour.
  • Assisting in the investigation of incidents that may occur involving staff, guests or both.
  • Ensuring the inventory, maintenance and security of all patrol and department facilities and equipment.
  • Ensuring that all injury and incident paperwork is completed correctly and within acceptable time frames.
  • Ensuring that all other duties assigned to department staff are completed on time and in the manner described.
  • Administering first aid services to injured staff and guests.
  • Educating staff and guests to the components of the Alpine Responsibility Code.
  • Acting as a safety resource for all staff from all other departments and assisting where required in creating good safety culture at Grouse Mountain Resorts Ltd.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years patrol experience
  • Basic knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
  • Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 3 and/or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)
  • Recreational avalanche course
  • Rope Rescue I
  • Expert skiing ability in all terrain and conditions
  • Strong motivator, problem solver and team player
  • Strong risk management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Mountaineering, rock climbing and/or back country experience and skills
  • Canadian Avalanche Association level 1
  • Worksafe BC Blasting Certificate
  • Occupational First Aid level III and Outdoor Emergency Care
  • CPR level ‘C’
  • Incident Command Structure 100
  • Advanced Protocols including Advanced Entonox, Sager, AED, Anaphylaxis, Short of Breath and Chest Pain

  • Blue Tram Self-Evacuation and Brake Release
  • Cable Car and Tram Evacuation Training
  • Search and Rescue Training with NSR
  • Incident Investigation training
