What exactly is Blue Grouse? Blue Grouse isn’t a product, or a destination. It’s an idea. A mission. And a promise.
The idea behind Blue Grouse is simple. Blue Grouse is about balance and responsibility, both in ecological and economic terms. We recognize that what is good for the environment can be equally good for business.
Our mission is equally clear. We are committed to embedding the principles of sustainability into every aspect of our life.
And our promise is this: every decision we make as a company will pass through the filter of social, environmental and economic responsibility. That what we practice will also educate and inspire others to become a part of the Blue Grouse philosophy.
Sustainability is a path towards a healthier world ----a path we’ve been on for two decades. Blue Grouse isn’t just about energy efficiency or recycling programs. It’s a way of thinking, an attitude, which influences everything we do. It might be something small as creating opportunities for our youth or as major as investing in alternate energy technologies to help power our ski lifts.
It’s why we use automatic taps to conserve water, and why we have developed a wellness program to encourage every employee to build fitness into their lifestyle. And it’s why we built a wind turbine called The Eye of the Wind, that provides up to 25% of our resorts power and also serves as a public observation deck and learning center for energy alternatives.
Blue Grouse is also a symbol. Whenever you see the Blue Grouse mark, it identifies another example of how we have brought our philosophy to life.
Today, Blue Grouse initiatives like biodiesel help power our machinery. You can now find Blue Grouse eco-friendly clothing in our retail shops and organic food and fair trade coffee in our restaurants. From supporting “lights-out”, wind power, and water conservation initiatives, recycling and educational programs for children, to creating a habitat for endangered wildlife, Blue Grouse has already become a way of life, and of doing business, here at Grouse Mountain.
Tomorrow, Blue Grouse could be solar power. Internal sewage treatment. Expanded wildlife habitats. A carbon neutral resort.
We won’t achieve all of our goals overnight. But we are fully committed to the journey.
The Blue Grouse has been a part of our mountain since its first sighting here more than a century ago. It is our hope that what we practice on the mountain will inspire others to live sustainably everyday, ensuring that our namesake will flourish here for centuries to come.
