Mountain Ropes Adventure FAQ

What is the Mountain Ropes Adventure?
Mountain Ropes Adventure Zone consists of two areas:
  • Mountain Ropes Adventure is a series of four aerial ropes courses with varying degrees of difficulty.
  • Kids Tree Canopy Adventure is fully contained and consists of three double treehouses, one single treehouse, slides and ground games. There is an adjacent parents supervision area.

Where is the Mountain Ropes Adventure located?
The Zone is located in the trees to the west of the Chalet, just beyond the area that houses the Sliding Zone in the winter. Access will be on the path that goes through the Light Tunnel area.

Who can go on it? Are there age restrictions?
The Kids Canopy is available to children aged 3-8. The Mountain Ropes Adventure is open to those aged 8+ who are a minimum height of 4’0”.

Do you need experience? Do you need to be physically fit?
No previous experience is required and participants will be briefed by trained staff prior to starting the activity. Mountain Ropes Adventure is a series of four courses, where each course increases in difficulty. The higher level courses do require a reasonable physical fitness.

Do I need to wear anything special?
We suggest comfortable athletic clothing suitable for the weather as tours operate rain or shine. Close-toed shoes are required and long hair must be tied back. All necessary safety equipment is provided including climbing harnesses and helmets.

How long does it take to complete the course? What are the operating hours?
For the Mountain Ropes Adventure, maximum access time is two hours. Expected time to complete is 1.5 hours. The Kids Tree Canopy Adventure doesn’t have a time restriction and has in-out privileges, but parents are expected to supervise their children in the Zone.

Daily operating hours: Adult Zone: opens at 10am with last entry at 6pm; Kids Canopy: opens at 10am and facility closes at 8pm.

Do you participate in Mountain Ropes Adventure as an individual or group?
Both! An intake of 15 participants into Mountain Ropes Adventure takes place every 30 minutes.

Is pre-booking required?
While pre-booking is suggested, walk-ins are welcome when available.

How many elements are in the Mountain Ropes Adventure?
A total of 56 elements make up the adventure. They are distributed throughout the four courses and increase in difficulty and height as you progress through each course.

What is the highest point in the course?
The highest element is 10 metres above the ground and is part of the Expert Course.

What is the longest element?
The longest element is a 38 metre zipline in the Beginner Course.

Is it dangerous?
In Mountain Ropes Adventure, participants are supplied with full protective equipment. This includes a fitted harness, helmet and safety tether system. Participants are always secured to safety lines utilizing both the Saferoller and Speedroller continuous belay systems by Kanopeo. Sections and elements of the course do bring participants well off the ground, and those with a fear of heights may find this to challenge their comfort zone.

In the Kids Tree Canopy Adventure, young participants are free to safely play in a fully enclosed network while being supervised by trained staff. The enclosed network allows the children to explore the forest without the need for any additional safety equipment.

Staff go through a rigorous safety training that includes Zip Line and Adventure Course Operational Procedures, Zip Line and Adventure Course Rescue, Pre-Use Checks of the park and associated equipment. All equipment and games are inspected on a daily basis to ensure safety. The Grouse Mountain, Mountain Ropes Adventure is being built by Treetop Trekking. Treetop Trekking has more than 15 years of experience in adventure park building. They use leading-edge technology in their park design, construction, maintenance and equipment supply.

Grouse Mountain Resort has been operating for more than 90 years, and puts safety at the very forefront of its operations. Grouse Mountain operates Mountain Ziplines year-round, and trails, runs and facilities for skiing, snowboarding, terrain parks, skating and sliding in winter.

What are the impacts to the environment? Is it damaging the trees?
Grouse Mountain worked with the District of North Vancouver to ensure that the Mountain Ropes Adventure Zone was developed respecting municipal development protocols, as well as the flora and fauna in the area. Grouse Mountain also utilized the services of 3rd Party Environmental Consultants B.A. Blackwell and Dunster & Associates. The Zone simultaneously provides a challenging and fun experience while educating guests about the environment and building reverence for forest ecosystems.
