February 8, 2012, North Vancouver, B.C. - With an abundance of snow and sunshine hitting the Lower Mainland this past week there is no better time to announce that registration is now open for Grouse Mountain’s Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run taking place on February 25 at 10am. The Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run formally known as the Snowshoe Classic is back for its fifteenth year and follows the popular 5.1 kilometer Snowshoe Grind, the winter alternative to the popular Grouse Grind. Snowshoers of all ages and abilities can sign up to feel the exhilaration of beating their best time or just take it easy as they just socialize while having fun with friends.

The Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run 5.1 kilometer course offers an escape into the serene beauty of a natural winter playground on a trail that begins steps away from the Grouse Mountain Chalet. It then journeys through snow-topped trees to Dam Mountain on a challenging alpine trail before looping back to the Chalet.

“Snowshoeing is a fantastic alternative to skiing & riding and is open to everyone regardless of age, fitness level or ability. Anyone who can walk can snowshoe and it is easy to see why it is become one of the most popular winter sports”, says Grouse Mountain’s General Manager Michael Cameron. “The Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run is definitely a highlight of the snowshoe calendar in the Lower Mainland and we invite all winter enthusiasts to come and experience this unique race atmosphere”.

Getting race ready is easy at the Peak of Vancouver as we offer a variety of snowshoe clinics and drop-in classes for every ability level. On weekends, snowshoers can book one of our Snowshoe Grind Clinics with Ladies Only, Beginner and Race Prep options to choose from. Clinic participants receive complimentary entry for the Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run. For those who are looking for a last-minute drop-in option, the Peak of Vancouver offers fun snowshoe fitness sessions at 7pm on Monday’s and Wednesday’s with no need to book.

Registration for the Snowshoe Grind Mountain Run includes race access and a fantastic après celebration in the Chalet that includes food, drinks, loads of prizes and recognition for top finishers in all age categories. Snowshoes are required but Grouse Mountain can supply rentals for only $5 on a first-come first served basis.

Registration fees are $25 with a Grouse Mountain Membership or Winter Season/Y2 Play Pass or $35 for non-passholders.
