FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday November 23, 2012

North Vancouver, B.C. – Santa along with his magical reindeer, Mrs. Claus and helpers will make their long awaited return to Grouse Mountain for the Peak of Christmas festivities beginning this Saturday. The holiday adventure begins soaring 3,700 feet above the city aboard the Red Skyride before arriving at a snowy winter wonderland. This year at the Peak of Christmas, families can meet Santa’s reindeer, Dancer and Vixen, at their wildlife habitat and learn more about his four-hooved friends at a Reindeer Ranger Talk or Holly the Jolly Reindeer show. The reindeer games continue inside the Chalet with reindeer and Christmas themed holiday movies in the warmth of the Theatre in the Sky, a craft area with antler decorating and festive reindeer tattoos.

Grouse Mountain’s favorite seasonal activities include mountaintop sleigh rides through the snowy forest and gliding around our 8,000 square foot outdoor Ice Skating Pond. The Peak of Christmas continues to support the Karen Magnussen Foundation’s Skater Development Program by hosting a series of complimentary skate lessons as well as an Ice Show held on December 15 featuring the top B.C., National and International skaters. Proceeds from skate rentals are also donated to the Karen Magnussen Foundation and have helped to raise thousands of dollars over the past number of years in an effort to put more of BC’s youth on the world stage now and in the years to come.

Winter magic awaits at Santa’s workshop where his helpers have been busy renovating his abode allowing guests to share their Christmas wishes and have a photo taken with the big man in red by a cosy fire. Lighting up the festive period, the Grouse Mountain Chalet will also be aglow with our brand new Gingerbread Village in support of SOS Children’s Village. This new Christmas tradition was made possible by a number of corporate sponsors, local culinary students and bakers who have all come together to support a great cause. Vote on your favorite house at the Spirit Gallery and help the creators walk away with a great prize while supporting charitable giving to SOS Children’s Village – the provincial branch of this international child charity, providing long-term care for children in need.

“For almost a decade, SOS Children’s Village have been an integral part of the Peak of Christmas and we are excited to host their new event, the Parade of Christmas, with it their first annual SOS Gingerbread Village”, says Grouse Mountain General Manager Michael Cameron. “The creative and magical creations on display at this year’s SOS Gingerbread Village are bound to ignite the imagination of children and adults alike. With the spirit of giving that the holiday season promotes, it is great to see corporate sponsors, members of the public and bakers generously stepping forward to help SOS Children’s Village raise valuable funds that ensure their life changing work can continue with vulnerable children and youth in our community”.

Inside the Chalet on weekends, guests can also listen to joyful music performed by Checo & the Sweet Soul Gospel Choir as they get everyone into the holiday spirit. Relaxing by the fire for a meal with friends and family at Altitudes Bistro is encouraged and reservations are also being taken for Grouse Mountain’s popular Breakfast With Santa and Christmas Lunches at The Observatory. The 86th winter season is underway at Grouse Mountain and all these festive Peak of Christmas activities are complimentary with your season’s pass, a Skyride admission ticket and a special family rate of $79.95 is also available.

The Peak of Christmas provides great photo and video content for holiday features.
