Today  marked the earliest date in years that Grinder and Coola have been given access to their Lower Pond Habitat.  In the past few years, larger than normal snow loads have delayed the opening of Lower Pond until the end of June or early July.

When we opened the gate today from the Upper Pond to the Lower Pond, Grinder and Coola wasted no time romping through and beginning their explorations.  The lower pond itself has begun to melt out and they both jumped into the icy waters for their first real submersion of the year (upper pond is still under a mound of snow).  This was quickly followed by more excited wrestling and finally a long afternoon nap on the hillside in Lower Pond.

As I write this they are back in the pond, playing away with the icebergs and snow!
