November 12, 2009, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, B.C. – The highly anticipated start to winter has arrived at the peak of Vancouver, and begins a momentous season filled with celebration. Grouse Mountain will launch the resort’s 83rd ski season opening at 4pm to 10pm on Friday, November 13, 2009. Paradise Bowl will be open for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy the serene beauty of a natural winter playground.

Mother Nature has brought about the favourable weather conditions that prompt this exciting opening. Snow enthusiasts can look forward to accessing the Greenway Chair, and ski or snowboard along the famed Paradise run. Freestyle park riders can also try their hand at a customized jib park to kick off the season.

“The right temperatures and precipitation have enabled us to begin this historic season,” says General Manager Michael Cameron. “We are excited to offer skiers and snowboarders the thrill of winter sports they have been looking forward to. This season will be truly exceptional and our 24-hour opening from February 12 to 28 will provide even more for local and international visitors.”

In addition to the entire resort remaining open 24 hours for all 17 days of the Olympics, Grouse Mountain will be the home of NBC’s Today show throughout the Games, and guests are encouraged to visit daily to cheer on the show live each morning in the Peak Chalet.

Vancouver’s favourite mountain will also begin utilizing energy provided by The Eye of the Wind in January 2010, and open for the public to see wind energy at work in British Columbia. As well as being a precursor to the ski season, the return of the outdoor skate pond earlier this week signaled the annual Peak of Christmas festivities are only a few weeks away.

More skiing terrain will open as snow continues to fall, and operating hours will transition to our regular season hours this weekend from 9am to 10pm.
