The official record for most Grouse Grinds completed in a one-day period was broken last night, with Sean Green achieving an astounding 21 ascents between 4:00 am and after 10:00 pm, surpassing the previous record by two ascents. As part of the Multi Grouse Grind Challenge – the only sanctioned event to determine the record-holder for most ascents of the Grouse Grind® in a one-day period – 100 participants sought to break the previous record of 19 Grouse Grinds set in 2019 and matched in 2024, while raising significant funds for North Shore Rescue.

The overall winner and record-breaker was Sean Green from North Vancouver, B.C., while the winner for the female competitors was Fion Chen from Burnaby, B.C., who achieved an incredible 17 ascents. Among the 100 participants, a collective total of 915 Grouse Grinds were hiked in the 19-hour period, including a second record-breaker in James Stewart from Vancouver, B.C., who completed 20 ascents.

“Seeing the drive and passion of all competitors and unwavering support from support parties throughout this grueling challenge is beyond inspiring,” says Emily Leak, Grouse Mountain Resort Communications Manager. “The Multi Grouse Grind Challenge is the North Shore’s most unique athletic event, and all participants should be incredibly proud of both the physical feat, and the valuable $46,000 and counting raised for North Shore Rescue.”

This year, funds raised across the Multi Grouse Grind Challenge and the Grouse Grind Mountain Run will go to North Shore Rescue (NSR), the volunteer, community-based search and rescue team providing a life-saving service to the public 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Established in 1965, the NSR team is made up of approximately 50 volunteers united by a shared commitment to serving the community, with each member highly trained in search and rescue operations across mountain, canyon, and urban environments.

“We’re honoured by the ongoing support from Grouse Mountain and all participants in this year’s Multi Grouse Grind Challenge,” says Scott Merriman, North Shore Rescue Team Leader. “The supporting funds raised will enable invaluable training initiatives and the purchase of life-saving equipment so NSR can continue to show up for our community when they need us most.”

Following last week’s Seek the Peak, the Multi Grouse Grind Challenge marks the second event in the Grouse Mountain Summer Race Series, which will include the Grouse Grind Mountain Run on Sunday, September 7, opening for registration soon.

Congratulations to all 2025 Multi Grouse Grind Challenge participants!
