North Vancouver, September 8, 2008 –

Grouse Mountain is proud to host the original van that was an integral component of Terry Fox's 1980 Marathon of Hope. As part of a special nationwide tour, visitors to the Alpine Plaza this afternoon can view the 1980 Ford Econoline van that was Terry's home for 4 ½ months during his historic run and viewing will commence at noon and close around 5 p.m.

During its one-day stop at Grouse Mountain, visitors can learn how the van was also used to carry supplies, monitor Terry's running mileage, collect donations and slow down traffic. Ford of Canada has completely restored the van and over 1,000 hours of around the clock work was needed to dismantle and reassemble every van piece.

It is now on a new journey raising funds for cancer research as another extension of Terry's Marathon of Hope. Since May, the van has travelled from St. John's, Newfoundland to traverse the country and visit over 50 communities. ScotiaMacleod organized the tour, and the van has come to Grouse Mountain as part of a fundraising event hosted by the financial institution at Grouse Mountain this evening.

The invitation-only event will also feature keynote speaker, Darrell Fox, Terry’s brother. More than $400 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's name since he passed in 1981 through the annual Terry Fox Run, held across Canada and around the world.
