Grinder and Coola emerge from 20th Hibernation Longest Hibernation Today marks the end of the longest hibernation period yet at Grouse Mountain for our two resident Grizzly Bears - Grinder and Coola. They went into their den and sleeping chamber on November 10th, 2020 and emerged today on April 29th, 2021. This is a period of 170 days and beats the previous record of 153 days set in 2017

Bears Begin 20th Hibernation on Grouse Mountain

This date of November 10th marks the earliest entrance into their winter dormancy here at Grouse Mountain - beating out the previous record of November 16th back in 2015. Bears Gaining Weight
April, Coola weighed in at 850 lbs and Grinder was a low 727 lbs. This morning Grinder weighed in at 836 lbs and Coola at 986 lbs. They each still have about 100 lbs more to gain as we approach November.
