  • Grinder and Coola Enter 21st Hibernation on Grouse Mountain

    170 days - a whopping five and a half months!  We'll see what this year brings.Before entering their den for the final time both bears were at their maximum winter weights - Coola tipped the scale at 1050 pounds and Grinder was 100 lbs lighter at 950 pounds.  They both added about 225 pounds from their summer weights over the last two months from early September until now.Grinder and Coola will

  • 20th Bearthday

    Coola was found near the town of Bella Coola on the BC Coast.  Bella sounded a bit too feminine for a male bear so he was dubbed Coola.  He was found next to his mother, who had unfortunately been struck and killed by a large vehicle.  Conservation officers that were called to the scene managed to rescue Coola and bring him in to a local Veterinarian's office where he was determined to be in great

  • Grinder and Coola Prepare for Winter
